The Currawinya 5 Day Tour is a flexible, client-focused birdwatching adventure allowing you to immerse yourself in the diverse habitats of Currawinya National Park. Designed collaboratively with your interests in mind, this tour offers a blend of guided excursions and tailored experiences across wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands.
Expect to encounter a spectacular array of bird species including rare migrants, waterfowl, and iconic outback birds. Each day is planned in consultation with you, ensuring the itinerary matches your pace and preferred focus, whether photography, species counts, or simply soaking up the stunning Australian outback.
Please note: Departures are available only on Sundays to align with regional airline schedules, ensuring smooth travel connections to and from Thargomindah.
- Day 1 (Sunday): Arrival at Thargomindah and transfer to Currawinya National Park. Introduction to the park’s landscape and wildlife, followed by an easy afternoon walk targeting local species such as the Australian Bustard and Black-fronted Dotterel.
- Day 2: Morning birdwatching at Lakes Numulla and Wyara. Focus on spotting waterbirds like Grey Teal, Pink-eared Duck, and the elusive Blue Bonnet Parrot. Afternoon at leisure with optional short walks or rest.
- Day 3: A guided full-day excursion to surrounding woodlands and floodplains. Opportunity to see Chestnut-crowned Babbler, Diamond Firetail, and the rare Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo. Evening spotlighting for night birds such as Tawny Frogmouth.
- Day 4: Flexible day tailored to client interests: choose between a boat trip on the lakes, extended photography sessions, or targeted bird surveys in lesser-known park areas.
- Day 5: Morning birdwatching walk emphasizing finishing any missed species, followed by return transfer to Thargomindah and departure.

The Currawinya 5 Day Tour departs exclusively on Wednesdays and Sundays to coordinate with airline flight schedules into Thargomindah.
A maximum of 3 guests per tour—ensuring a personalized, intimate experience.
Moderate fitness is recommended. Activities involve gentle walking and some travel on country roads.
All meals and comfortable country accommodation are included. Dietary requirements are catered—just let us know your needs.
If severe weather or road conditions make the trip unsafe, we’ll offer a full refund or help you reschedule.
A hat, sturdy walking shoes, camera, binoculars, and an adventurous spirit! Outback essentials like insect repellent and sunscreen are provided.
Cancellations less than 7 days prior to departure may forfeit fees (see booking terms for details). If we must cancel, you’ll receive a full refund.
